About Us:

Teamsters Local 671 received its charter from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in December of 1934 and at that time had 63 members. An election was held and driver John Murphy was elected as the first Secretary-Treasurer/Principal Officer of Local 671. The current Secretary-Treasurer/Principal Officer is David Lucas, Jr.

Teamsters Local 671 immediately began to organize and grow to the point where another Local Union was needed in order to handle specific crafts. That Local was chartered in 1939 as Teamsters Local 559. Local 671 continued to organize and again it became necessary to charter another Local for geographic reasons. In 1943, Teamsters Local 493 came into existence to handle the far eastern part of Connecticut.

Teamsters Local 671 was fortunate to be able to grow in the 1970's and 1980's when freight companies were closing almost monthly. That growth was through United Parcel Service. Today, Local 671 continues to organize and attempt to meet the challenges of the new millennium. We work closely with our sister Locals to promote the growth of the Teamsters Union.
