Statement of NH State Building and Construction Trades Council President Ed Foley
April 19, 2009
“Today’s bipartisan vote by the NH State Senate to kill Senate Bill 152 and allow Merrimack Station’s Clean Air Project to proceed as planned demonstrates the senate’s interest in protecting jobs, health and the environment. The construction and utilization of scrubber technology to remove mercury emissions from a coal burning power plant is among the first in the country. This puts New Hampshire at the forefront in controlling fossil fuel emissions, and provides a foundation from which New Hampshire will build a cleaner energy future for our state.
The 5,000 men and women of the New Hampshire State Building and Construction Trades Council thank the NH Senate for their support, and we look forward to working together with Public Service of New Hampshire, environmental organizations, Stonyfield Farms and others to develop greater renewable energy generation in New Hampshire.”
